The provocative and disturbing paintings of Juan Luís Jardí are now on exhibit in Hotel Pacha

The new art exhibition in Hotel Pacha presents the works of the Spanish painter Juan Luís Jardí (Barcelona, 1961). It’s on until Thursday, the 13th of September.

His paintings are big, directly proportioned to the impression they leave on the observer. The exhibition showcases 20 paintings, most of which were created in the last two years. His style blends magical realism with pop art and surrealism.

Juan Luís likes to place elements in unimaginable places, giving space to the absurd and incoherent. Through his work, he aims to provoke different feelings like melancholy, euphoria, and nostalgia, through an intriguing explosion of colours and symbology. His intention is to show the contrast and doubts we face in our lives.

In the artworks of Jardí, there are certain repeated elements, like the carousel or certain characters that remind him of his childhood. Scenes of America are also very present in his paintings, due to his fascination with the classic Hollywood movies.

El hundimiento del pasado

You might find a familiar relation between his paintings and the style of the American painter, Edward Hopper (1882-1967)- one of the artists who had strongly influenced his work.

Dreamy, intriguing, mysterious… There are many ways to describe this exhibition, located in the bar of the hotel (9am-3am) and open until Thursday 13 of September in Hotel Pacha (next to the club, 10 minutes away walking from the centre).
