Make the best of your summer diet to beat the heat while keeping that body on flames

We are what we eat
Like all contradictions in life, the fact that you’re on vacation to treat yourself automatically implies that you have to eat lighter unless you want to roll from the beach to the club. It sucks.

However, everything changes once we understand that when we eat, we are in fact seeking to gain and save energy to keep our body functioning. Technically, a calorie is the amount of energy needed to raise the temperature of 1 kilogram of water, 1 degree Celsius. This means, calories=heat.

Our heat supplier nº1 is, of course, the Sun. When we eat fruits and vegetables, we are chemically obtaining the carbohydrates that have been created by plants through photosynthesis, combining carbon, hydrogen, and oxygen with the sunlight, and forming the CHO molecule (fat).

Vegetarians know- aside from their ethical reasons- that eating meat equates to eating an already consumed CHO that the animal absorbed from plants. This useless, ‘second-hand CHO’, makes their bodies heavier and slower- and they know it. How annoyingly smart can they be…

So, to keep your body fresh (and hot) during the summer, always go first for fruits and vegetables. Watermelon, orange, strawberries, tomatoes, green leaves, avocado, seeds and all kinds of salads, are your best and most delicious friends. It has no magic trick—I know you knew this—but it is quite amazing to remember why we need them so much and why fast food is such a terrible choice.

Also, ask in the grocery shop or the restaurant if the fruits and vegetables are locally produced, and prefer what’s seasonal. The closer the plant is, the fresher. Drink at least 2/3 litres of water, respect your breakfast (the most important meal of the day) and above all: have fun, enjoy your life, find your balance, and make that body sweat.
