The week began with the shocking news about the death of the beloved Tony Pike and we wish to honour the eternal footprint he left in Ibiza.
The mythical character that brought so much party and rock n’ roll to the island, passed away on Sunday 24 February in the residence where he was hospitalised for the last days because of his complex health condition. At 85 years old—which we should multiply by 69 for obvious reasons—he left this world with a legacy of the good life immortalized in 25 rooms inside the fabulous hotel that has his name, (you can read here the article of the Pikes Hotel that we published a few months ago).
Nothing we can say will overcome the reality of the facts. His uncontrollable passion for celebrating, for sex and beauty, for enjoying life. His intense romances and mythical friendship with mega rock stars (among them, Grace Jones, Freddy Mercury, George Michael) that have been his biggest partners in his hedonistic endless parties, turned into a book “Mr Pikes: The Story Behind The Ibiza Legend”, video clips like “Club Tropicana”, and endless anecdotes that he enjoyed sharing openly with the world. Whether you agree or not with his unique lifestyle, no one can deny that he hasn’t had a good time.
A life well lived like this, with so much honesty, authenticity, freedom, and so much flavour, is an inspiring example that we should thank. Thanks to people like him that Ibiza is what it is: a corner in the world where we dare to explore our identity in a very joyful way and to get free of our mental prejudices. We are here to get closer to that vision that one day we had of ourselves, dancing, swimming, laughing, hugging… Enjoying life under the sun or the stars, together with other people just as crazy as us.
Tony, your legend will never die.
