The Consell Insular de Ibiza takes steps to curb the saturation of the island in Ibiza, especially in summer, when the supply of rental cars multiplies.
One of the measures to be implemented is to force car rental companies to have parking spaces to store part of their fleet, in order to avoid parking in prohibited areas or rural land.
This initiative is part of the development of the regulation of Law 5/2024, in force since June 1. The regulation establishes a maximum limit of 20,168 cars circulating daily in Ibiza between June and September, of which 16,000 belong to the rental sector.
In this sense, sanctions have already begun to be applied to those rental vehicles that have operated without authorization during the summer. In addition, nearly 27,000 requests have been filed, 7,000 more than expected under the new law.
Thanks to this new regulation on the way, it is expected not only to order the public space, but also to improve coexistence on an island increasingly pressured by excessive traffic.
