Can you imagine arriving at Ses Salines and knowing instantly if the beach is quiet or crowded? Well, this is already possible thanks to a new system of intelligent sensors that have just been installed.
It is a kind of “digital ears” that through wifi can calculate in real time how many people are on the beach at that moment.
To maintain the privacy of bathers, these sensors do not directly access the devices, nor do they store personal information, but what they do is capture the signals of cell phones when they try to connect to nearby Wi-Fi networks and thus measure the influx of people at a given point.

This initiative is part of the “Territorio Balear Inteligente” project, which seeks to use technology to improve the experience of neighbors and tourists without putting the natural environment at risk. With this, Ses Salines becomes a pioneering point of sustainable tourism management.
The Balearic Agency for Digitalization, Cybersecurity and Telecommunications (IB Digital) has been in charge of promoting this project that starts in Ses Salines, but aims to expand to more beaches and coves .
