Sant Joan’s Day is coming

It is one of the most fun parties… and it isn’t at a nightclub
Sant Joan’s Day, the feast day of Saint John the Baptist, coincides with the June solstice. The fact that it is the shortest night of the year, doesn’t mean that it’s less fun at all.

When the sun sets on 23 June, Ibiza wakes up, again. And, whatever your religion, this day is a day of celebration. The festival, which is celebrated in many places of the world, has a special meaning for one of the most beautiful villages of the island: Sant Joan de Labritja. As a tip, remember to go with time in advance and try to share cars, as the roads get super busy. And, if you aren’t close, don’t worry: Talamanca and plenty of other beaches around the island will also be a hotspot. Fireworks, live music, friends… Forget about Netflix for a night.

It is celebrated in many ways, but there is a key element that continues to be the protagonist of the event since the beginning of times: the fire. Originally served to repel witches and evil spirits, and according to the tradition (a quite dangerous one, from my own unfortunate experience…), brave people use to jump over the flames as a ritual to burn the past or gain a powerful dose of adrenaline. If you are going to do it, please be sure your body reflexes are working fine and you haven’t drink too much or the party could end soon.

The most beautiful thing to do, in my opinion, is to grab a pen and a paper like poets do, sit on the beach looking at the horizon (bring something to eat and drink, as the evening can last for hours), and spend a moment to think about your last year. Then, think about the future, write your wishes, the things you want to accomplish, the things you are ready to change in your life, and then… burn it. This way, you will start fresh a brand new season and you will say to the universe: “I give you my deepest dreams, please help me and give life to them”.
