Just as the best things in life take time to come, we recommend that if you are in Ibiza, you dare to explore it through all its cardinal points. Leave the centre behind and go up to the very last town on the island. You won’t regret it.
The air is fresher; the towns look like they were ripped from storybooks, and the roads smell like flowers and pines. If this is not enough to convince you… the beaches are not so crowded, or at least you won’t hear the electronic beats for a while. It is known for being an area where the hippy community established to follow their spiritual and healthy lifestyle, and you can tell that as soon as you arrive. Having said all this, here are the TOP 5 things to do in the beautiful Sant Joan de Labritja:
In town
Sant Joan’s Hippie Market
This little town has a special charm and every Sunday of the year, all the streets dress up lively to celebrate the Hippie Market (or ‘mercadillo’ as they say) and welcome tourists and locals with stands and souvenirs of all kinds and colours. There is a live music band playing since midday, and you will love to take a walk on the streets and wander around (it is very little so you will do it fast). In case you want to compare it to others hippy markets, here’s all the info you need.
The church
Built in the 18th century, it will remind you who’s in charge of the town. Go and have a look inside, then you can sit on the stairs to enjoy its architectural style and relax watching the people pass by… Right in front, there is a typical restaurant to enjoy some tapas and a cold beer or whatever suits you best under the sun or safe from it inside the place. Both the church and the hippy market are part of the same plan, so if you are thinking which day is best to go… Sunday it is.
At the beach
Cala de Sant Vicent
It is the perfect combination of a big beach with idyllic views and even during Ibiza’s prime season, you can always be sure to find a spot in the sand. Cala de Sant Vicent is mostly impressive because of its picture-perfect blue waters, clifftop lookout point and lining of palm trees along the promenade. If you want to know more, check this article.
Cala Xarraca
Secluded, quiet, calm… Just a few words that describe this beach. We tell you all about it in its exclusive article, here. Plus, if you are up for some action, our best recommendation is to do a kayak and snorkel adventure. There’s no better way to know the real face of the island, and it is extremely fun.
Cala Benirrás
Famous for its stunning sunsets and the big band of drummers who play to celebrate them every day, Cala Benirrás is a great option to feel the Ibiza vibe running through your veins and to freshen up your mermaid tail in the water for a while. If you want to know more about it, check out this article and enjoy your day in paradise!
